Care Package

Friday's mail brought a fun surprise from my parents: a care package full of food. And not just any food either, but food they've grown and/or preserved. In this case, dried apples and tomatoes, cookies—chocolate ones, plain, some with nuts, others with mint chips—and a marmalade they call Sunny T, which I have yet to try but have heard all about.

As I understand it, my dad's responsible for the food dehydrator. Over the years, I've been the delighted recipient of quite a few of his dried fruits and veggies. This box, though, contained three (three!) packages of my very favorites: tomatoes—tomatoes so sweet and tender (most likely because he peels them!), I usually end up eating more of them as snacks than actually rehydrating them for use in recipes.

But last night I used a few in a sauce with zucchini and grilled polenta. Very tasty.
